Goodbye :'(

It’s already been about 3 months since I started this blog and I’m sorry to tell you that it’s coming to an end.

I had so many new and great experiences preparing and writing this blog

I originally didn’t have much interest in thrift shopping(oops :P), but once I started this blog, I started to love thrifting!

It was wonderful going out in San Luis Obispo looking for the thrift stores and interviewing the managers and employees.

Although it was a lot of time and hard work that I had to put in to make this blog a success, I feel that it was worth it

My shy personality made it hard interviewing, and I had so much technical difficulties with the computer, wordpress, Audacity(audio interview), and Premiere(video teaser and video).

IT WAS SO FRUSTRATING! But I made it 🙂

I had the most difficult time with Premiere, but filming and editing the video was a new experience and I really enjoyed it(not sure if I’ll do it again though
haha)

Up to this point, I had 764 views and 3 comments

Thank you to those who gave me comments, they really helped and I hope I was able to meet up to your expectations

Thank you to all of my readers who visited this blog and I hope you had a wonderful time like I did writing it

Keep on thrifting! 😉 ❀

Video

Here’s the video you’ve all been waiting for!

(watch the video with better quality by raising it up to 1080p)

I went to Curio and interviewed Donna Cody, owner of the store. (Sorry for the bad audio, I had some technical issues for her interview 😩 )

I also went to Mission Thrift, a thrift store that supports Old Mission School. I interviewed Susie Fitler, who has been working there for about 3 years.

Lastly, I had my roommate, Kelsey Laroa(who I interviewed for my past post, Thrift Thrive), make an outfit from her own closet with just thrift store finds.

Thank you to all who made this video a success!

Hope you enjoyed the video 😀

Teaser

This is a teaser for the upcoming video!

This teaser only shows Curio but the upcoming video will also be featuring Mission Thrift, and some interviews with Curio’s manager and an employee from Mission Thrift.

There will also be a special interview with my roommate, Kelsey Laroa, who I interviewed in my earlier posts.

Stay tuned! 🙂

There’s an APP for that

I’m here today to introduce you to a really cool app that is totally free available both on the iPhone and Android called Vinted!

I found this app a few months ago so I don’t really know much about the app, but they also have a website that you can access through your computer.

I just checked out the website but it seemed pretty easy to use 😀

This app lets you sell, buy, and swap pre-owned clothes and accessories super easy and fast through your phone!

Here’s a quick view on what the app looks like on the Android

Here’s my top 10 reasons this is a really awesome app for thrifters and why you should check it out!

  1. The app layout is really simple and easy to use
  2. Lots of pre-owned items from famous brands
  3. Vinted will give you $10 for FREE when you download the app and sign up!
  4. The Vinted staff are very friendly and easy to contact 🙂
  5. Very good prices–if you don’t like the price, you can try negotiating with the seller by commenting under the item or messaging them
  6. You can filter your search by keywords, brands, payment option(sell, swap, or gift), price range, sizes, color, location of the item is shipped from, and the condition of the item!
  7. You can save items that you like or are interested in by putting them in your favorites and check them out later
  8. You can swap items that you like with items you are selling–you just need to ask the seller first if they’re willing to swap
  9. Super easy and nice buying process (I’m not really sure how the selling process goes but it seems easy!)
  10. Once you buy an item and the seller sends it, Vinted will automatically send you a tracking number

Map!

I made a map on Google Maps of the thrift stores I have been to so far and the other stores in SLO that I have yet to go check out!

The blue checkpoints are the thrift stores.

It’s amazing to see how much thrift stores there are in SLO!

Hope this treasure map will help your treasure hunting 😉 ❀

Enjoy thrifting!

Does Macklemore really shop at thrift stores?

So I’m sure all of you have heard Macklemore’s hit song, “Thrift Shop”.

Thrift Shop Album Cover

If not, here’s the music video: “Thrift Shop” Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz

The title explains it, but the song is basically about thrift stores.

Since the rapper is rapping about thrift stores in the song, you might have wondered if he actually does, or have ever shopped at thrift stores.

So a here’s a quick background about Macklemore:

Macklemore

  • born Ben Haggerty on June 19, 1983, in Seattle, Washington
  • took to performing as a child, and was influenced by the likes of hip-hop
  • started using liquor and drugs heavily in high school
  • entered a 35-day rehab program in the summer of 2008
  • released his full-length debut, The Language of My World, in 2005
  • teamed up with Ryan Lewis in 2010
  • released “Thrift Shop” in 2012, one of his and Lewis’ major hits

Things Macklemore had said about thrift shopping:

  • “You know, I love thrift shopping. It is something that has been a part of my life since I was a young kid and it’s outside of the box. I like to write songs about my life and things that make me a unique person, and thrift shopping is one of those.” -from Does Macklemore Really Thrift Shop?
  • “I shop at thrift shops probably five times a week…I waste a lot of money, a lot of time at thrift shops
 it’s a great way to spend rapper money.” -from Macklemore ‘Pops Some Tags’ While Thrift Shopping
  • “You have to think, ‘I’m on a treasure hunt and I have no idea what the treasure looks like.’ ” -from Macklemore ‘Pops Some Tags’ While Thrift Shopping
  • “If anything gets over $12.99, then you really need to evaluate whether this is something you need in your life, because then it is turning into something that’s not exactly in the thrift-shop price range, you know?” -from The Macklemore Bible of Thrift-Store Shopping
  • “Well, I try not to turn my back on any thrift shop, but if you walk into a spot that is less than 500 square feet and mostly comprised of plates and dishes, then you know you’re in the wrong spot. You gotta get outta there, like ASAP. Then there’s the smell. All thrift shops have a unique smell, but if you get a whiff of wet dog, then bounce!” -from The Macklemore Bible of Thrift-Store Shopping
  • “I buy whatever I see, but I tend to not spend money just to spend it. If I’m going to buy something, I don’t want it to just sit in the closet, so I really make sure that it’s something I’m going to wear, that I’m going to use. But it all depends on what I see on a given day.” -from Macklemore Lets Loose His Thrift Store Secrets

Well it looks like Macklemore actually does thrift shop!

He gave some pretty good tips on when thrift shopping

He seems like he thrift shops enough to be a pro-thrifter 😆

How much are Americans really thrift shopping?

According to NARTS(National Association of Resale & Thrift Shops): The Association of Resale Professionals, the popularity of thrift shopping is rapidly increasing today.

I found this data in NART’s Industry Statistics & Trends page, which was researched by a consumer research firm, America’s Research Group.

I created this pie chart to show the percentage of American’s who will shop at certain stores, during a given year.

The numbers of Americans choosing to shop at thrift stores and consignment/resale shops are increasing each year.

What do you think of these percentages?

How am I doing so far?

To see how I am doing so far on this blog, I asked a few people to comment on my blog.

I got great comments, compliments, and suggestions from so many! Thank you all 🙂

Here are some of the comments I received that I screenshotted.

I had some comments about the appearance of the blog so I tried changing some stuff.

Did you notice the different background color? How do you like it?

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do anything about the font color and home button because of the blog theme I am using :/

About the soundcloud audio from my blog post, Thrift Thrive, the audio played on my phone(android) but I’m not really sure how it works for iPhones.

I also had comments about wanting to see some DIY projects or original outfits created with items bought at the thrift stores.

I will definitely plan for that soon and hopefully think of good and unique ideas!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition to these comments, I also received a comment from my fellow Journalism 285 classmate, Juliet Saunders 😀
Here’s her blog that I also commented on, check it out: Dear Poly, get me outta here!
She told me that she really liked my blog, simple and nice. She said that my blog reminded me of one her favorite fashion blog keiko lynn
I looked at it, but it’s a super pretty blog not even comparable to mine, so I feel honored that my blog reminded her of it!
Thank you all who gave me feedback on my blog! ❀
They helped me a lot and I will definitely take in consideration of everything that you all mentioned to improve my blog.
